Sources: Josh McPake arrives for Hamilton trial after quitting Rangers
Hamilton Academical have handed former Rangers attacker Josh McPake an opportunity to train and trial with them in an effort to win a deal, sources have told Football Insider.
McPake, 22, is currently a free agent after he had his contract cancelled by Rangers on 1 September.
The former Scotland Under-21 international will be hoping to impress on trial at Hamilton in a bid to secure a deal with the League One club.
He made two substitute appearances in the Scottish League Challenge Cup prior to his Rangers exit, notching the winner against Stenhousemuir.
McPake‘s sole first-team appearance for the Ibrox came under Steven Gerrard in the 2019-20 season, when he came off the bench in a 6-0 European qualifier win over St Joseph’s FC.
The winger was then sent out on loan to Dundee, Greenock Morton, Harrogate Town, Morecambe, Tranmere Rovers and Queen’s Park.

His most successful spell came at Queen’s Park, where he notched four goals and three assists across 33 appearances in all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.
He has made 96 total senior appearances during his career so far, scoring nine goals.
McPake’s time at Ibrox was littered with disciplinary issues, with Football Insider revealing as early as March that Rangers were considering terminating his deal after fining him for off-pitch issues.
The 23-year-old now finds himself without a club and will hope to secure a new deal with Hamilton despite them dropping down to the third tier of Scottish football.
The Accies are flying high in League One and sit second in the table with an unbeaten record.
