Sources: Kalvin Phillips is likely to leave Man City after latest development

Kalvin Phillips is looking more and more likely to leave Man City in 2024, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder has been pushed further down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium following the summer arrivals of Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic.

Phillips was brutally snubbed by Pep Guardiola for the 1-0 away loss against Arsenal last week (8 October).

The Spaniard preferred to play Rico Lewis and Bernardo Silva in a defensive midfield role, while the England international sat on the bench as an unused substitute.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the Arsenal game is just another sign that Guardiola does not trust Phillips.

The ex-Leeds star has made just five appearances totalling 167 minutes of action in the 2023-24 campaign.

He started in the League Cup loss against Newcastle last month (27 September), further weakening his case for a starting role in the eyes of Guardiola.

Despite his lack of club action, Phillips continues to be selected internationally by England boss Gareth Southgate.

He played 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ friendly against Scotland last month (12 September) and is in the squad for this month’s games against Australia and Italy.

Phillips cost Man City a reported £45million when they signed him from Leeds United last summer (2022).

The defensive midfielder, who has amassed 28 England caps, is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until June 2028.

He has played just 760 minutes of action during his time with the treble-winners.
