Agbonlahor tips Eddie Nketiah for 'definite' Arsenal axe after what he's seen

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Gabriel Jesus should “definitely” come into the Arsenal lineup ahead of Eddie Nketiah for the game against Everton on Sunday (17 September).

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old Brazillian is the “better player” and highlighted his importance in creating chances for star men Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

Jesus missed the first three games of the 2023-24 campaign with a knee injury but has now returned to full fitness.

He returned to the scoresheet with a last-gasp goal against Man United in Arsenal’s 3-1 home win earlier this month after coming off the bench.

61-cap Brazil international Jesus also played in both of his country’s international fixtures in the past week as he ramps up his injury return.

The ex-Man City star notched 11 goals and eight assists across 33 appearances for Arsenal last season after joining Arteta’s side for a reported £45million.

Nketiah has started three of the Gunners’ first five games of the season, scoring twice.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think Jesus is the number one for Arsenal.

“When Arteta brought him to the club, he was probably thinking that this is his new first-choice striker.

“He’s had his injury problems, but when both players are fit – Jesus is the better player.

“Maybe Nketiah is the better finisher or the better poacher, but Jesus does a lot for Arsenal.

“He comes off the defenders, into the space, creating a lot for Martinelli and Saka.

“So I think for Arsenal’s next game, Everton away, Jesus has to come in and start.”
