Agbonlahor suggests Trevoh Chalobah U-turn at Chelsea after bombshell report

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Trevoh Chalobah could yet force his way back into the plans at Chelsea despite reports suggesting he could be frozen out.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Mauricio Pochettino will be forced to change his hardline stance if the Blues suffer significant “injuries or suspensions” at centre-back.

According to the London Evening Standard (13 September), Chalobah, 24, is considered surplus to requirements and could be frozen out at Chelsea.

That bombshell comes after interest from Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Bayern Munich failed to materialise into a permanent summer exit – with the Blues’ reported £50million asking price proving too much for potential suitors.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 August that Chalobah had rejected the chance to join Forest.

The defender is yet to play for Chelsea this season, with a hamstring injury expected to keep him on the treatment table until late September.

Chalobah is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2028 after penning a new deal less than 12 months ago.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think it’s hard for Chalobah because there will have been conversations with Pochettino during the summer.

“Maybe the new manager doesn’t want him. He wants to sell him, but the player turned down a move to Nottingham Forest.

“Chalobah clearly wanted the Bayern Munich move, understandably.

“But if Chelsea don’t want him, and he hasn’t left, then maybe they’ll use the rejected offers against him.

“But a lot can change between now and January. I can’t see them not playing him if they get some big injuries or suspensions – and he could force his way in.

“It’s pretty obvious that Pochettino and the club don’t fancy him though with the volume of defenders they have brought in.”
