Agbonlahor swipes at 'dangerous' Arteta with savage Arsenal claim - 'let's face it'

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted David Raya will displace Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal and play “75%” of the club’s fixtures this season.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, disputed Mikel Arteta’s claim – after the Gunners boss insisted he hasn’t got a first-choice goalkeeper.

Ramsdale was dropped by Mikel Arteta for Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday (17 September), with loan star Raya given his first start for the Gunners.

The England international had played the first four games of the 2023-24 campaign, keeping one clean sheet and conceding four goals.

He played all 38 Premier League games as Arsenal challenged for the title in the 2022-23 campaign – conceding 43 goals and keeping 14 clean sheets.

Ramsdale signed a contract extension at the Emirates Stadium in May, keeping him at the club until June 2026.

He cost a reported potential fee of £30million in 2021.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “The dangerous thing Arteta is doing by rotating his keepers is risking them not being up to speed.

“One of them is going to be out of rhythm.

“If they were playing in the Europa League, I could see it – but the Champions League is so tough.

“Let’s face it, I think everyone agrees. Raya is going to be the number one, and Ramsdale is going to be the number two.

“The majority of the games, come the end of the season – I’m sure Raya will have played 75% of the games – no matter what Arteta says.”
