Agbonlahor savages Man United star Lisandro Martinez - 'you've been found out'

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has been “found out” in the 2023-24 season and must “do better”.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Harry Maguire would have been “slated” for Martinez’s performance in the 3-1 defeat by Brighton on Saturday (16 September).

Martinez has started in each of Man United’s games so far this season, including in Wednesday’s (20 September) 4-3 Champions League loss against Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag’s side have picked up just six points from a possible 15 to start the new season, leaving them in 13th place.

Martinez arrived at Man United from Dutch giants Ajax for a reported fee of £56.7million and signed a contract running until June 2027.

The 5ft 9in defender, who won the World Cup with Argentina last winter, has racked up 51 appearances for the Red Devils.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “The thing that really frustrated me with the Brighton game was Lisandro Martinez.

“If Harry Maguire had done what he did for the Pascal Gross goal, turning his back and trying to dive in – Maguire would’ve got slated for days and days.

“Martinez was outstanding last season, but this season he’s been found out.

“He’s not the defender he was last season. He’s getting found out every game, skinned too often, and he’s not been great on the ball.

“But because he smashes someone, United fans are blinded to how bad he has really been.

“He’s got to do better.”
