Agbonlahor can't believe Bruno Guimaraes could join new club for £100m+ after Newcastle update
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Newcastle United will be “safe” if they include a release clause of £100million+ in Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old is not yet worth a nine-figure fee after a below-par start to the 2023-24 campaign.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs (via GiveMeSport, 18 September), Guimaraes is close to penning a new Newcastle contract – which could include a release clause of more than £100million.
It is suggested that the price tag has been informed by the sales of Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.
Guimaraes has started all six games for Newcastle so far this season, including in the club’s first Champions League game for 20 years against AC Milan on Tuesday (19 September).
The midfielder, cost a reported fee of £40million when he joined the Magpies from Lyon in January 2022, is currently under contract until June 2026.

When asked if Guimaraes is now a £100million player, Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Not for me, at the moment.
“Maybe in the future if he improves, and keeps playing for Brazil.
“But at the moment, he’s not worth that. He’s not had the greatest start to the new season when you’re looking at the standards he set last season.
“I don’t think he’s a £100million player.
“I think, for now, Newcastle are safe if they include that release clause. That can change, of course.”
