Pundit who 'knows Brendan Rodgers from Celtic' claims fans 'turned on him' and deserved sack

It was the ‘right time’ for Leicester City to sack Brendan Rodgers after the club dropped into the relegation zone.

That is the opinion of former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Leicester’s decision to sack Rodgers.

The Foxes announced last Sunday (2 April) that Rodgers had been sacked after spending four years as manager of the club.

Leicester sit 19th in the Premier League table with just seven wins this campaign. They are also winless in their last eight league fixtures.

The Premier League club announced on Monday (10 April) that Dean Smith has been appointed manager until the end of the season.

McManus believes Leicester were right to sack Rodgers when they did, with the club sent into ‘absolute panic’ when dropped into the bottom three.

Obviously I know Rodgers from his time at Celtic and I think it probably was the right time for him to go,” McManus told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

He came across as a guy over the last couple of months who really wasn’t happy.

They’ve not given him a lot of money to spend this season and when you drop into that bottom three like Leicester did at the weekend, there’s absolute panic at the club.

“The owners will be thinking about the amount of money they’re going to lose if they do go down.

“I think the fans had turned on him as well – we’ve seen a lot of protests and banners and I think once the fans start to do that and the directors and the owners hear that at games there’s only one outcome.

I think it probably was the right decision.
