Sources: Man City on course to smash record as historic £385m payout on the cards

Bonus payments for winning a historic treble would almost certainly see Man City smash the Premier League wage record this season, industry sources have told Football Insider.

City stars could take home bonuses of nearly £35million if they become only the second English side to ever achieve the feat.

Pep Guardiola‘s side need just one more win to seal the Premier League title and will face Man United in the FA Cup final on 3 June.

To claim their most coveted prize, they must overcome Real Madrid on Wednesday (17 May) in the Champions League semi-final second leg having drawn 1-1 with the 14-time champions at the Bernabeu last week.

It is understood that the owners will pay out over £20m to City players if they go on to lift the trophy next month in Istanbul, where Inter Milan await.

Domestic success in the FA Cup and Premier League meanwhile is believed to be worth around £15m in bonuses, with the bulk of that figure coming from the league.

The bonuses are weighted towards City’s top players, with the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in line to trouser the largest rewards

Football Insider analysis estimates that City’s annual wage bill – which takes into account bonus payments – could consequently rise to around £385m by the end of the campaign.

That would narrowly eclipse the £384m Man United paid players in 2021-22, which was a record for a Premier League team.

City’s payout would represent far better value for money, however, with bonus payments correlating directly with the enormous prize money on offer for winning the treble.

While the FA Cup offers only modest prize money, the Premier League winners are set to earn around £150m and the Champions League champions roughly £115m.
