Exclusive: Shrewsbury Town beat Salford & MK Dons to Will Grigg deal
Shrewsbury Town have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland striker Will Grigg on loan until the end of the season, Football Insider understands.
As revealed by this site on Tuesday, the 29-year-old has attracted the attention of the likes of Salford City and MK Dons ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.
A recruitment source has since told Football Insider League One rivals Shrewsbury have moved swiftly to negotiate a loan agreement with the Black Cats.
Grigg has fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light since the turn of the year and manager Lee Johnson has given the green light for the Northern Ireland international to leave.
The Northern Ireland international has not played in the league for Sunderland since mid-December, with Charlie Wyke very much the first-choice striker on Wearside.
Grigg, who arrived at Sunderland from Wigan Athletic in a £3million deal back in January 2019, has struggled for any sort of form in the north east and has not scored at all in 12 appearances this term.

Meanwhile, Wyke has been netting on a consistent basis for Johnson’s men, with the winner against Ipswich Town his 15th goal of the campaign.
Grigg, who is one of the top earners at the Stadium of Light, still has 18 months left on his contract on Wearside.
However, his wages have not stopped Shrewsbury from striking a deal to take him to the New Meadow for the rest of the campaign.
Steve Cotterill’s men currently sit 17th in the League One table and are the second-lowest scorers in the division with just 21 goals in as many games.
In other news, Kevin Phillips has delivered his verdict on a huge Sunderland problem which will cost £300,000 to fix.
