Bodymoor Heath source reveals all about Gerrard's methods and how Aston Villa stars are reacting
The Aston Villa squad are “genuinely excited” to be working under Steven Gerrard following his appointment, Football Insider can reveal.
The 41-year-old was named as Dean Smith’s replacement last week and has been taking training this week ahead of Saturday’s game against Brighton.
A Villa training ground source has told Football Insider the word coming out of Bodymoor Heath is one of “excitement”, with players instantly enjoying Gerrard’s methods.
The former Rangers manager took his first training session as Villa boss on Monday (15th November).
Villa sacked former head coach Smith with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League after 11 games.
The source revealed Gerrard’s appointment has been very well received by the squad.

They also revealed some players are apprehensive, in a positive way, about working under such a big name.
The source told Football Insider: “It’s excitement, from what I can tell. A young, hungry manager coming in. Sometimes a fresh voice, new tactics, everything can just spur you on.
“You can tell speaking to some of the players, I wouldn’t say (they’re) nervous to meet him but genuinely excited.
“He’s up there as one of the best midfielders ever to play the game so you’re going to have that feeling to just see how he works.
“Excitement is the word.”
Villa won just three of their opening league games this season.
Smith’s last game in charge ended in a 1-0 defeat away at Southampton.
The 50-year-old has since been appointed Norwich City manager following Daniel Farke’s departure.
Villa face Brighton and Crystal Palace before a tough run of fixtures in early December.
They play host to Manchester City and Leicester City before visiting Liverpool.
