Tottenham tipped to sign 'very exciting' Kane ally after BBC update

Noel Whelan has suggested Tottenham could sign the “second striker they’re looking for” in Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds forward insisted the “explosive” 25-year-old has the quality needed to act as Harry Kane’s understudy.

As reported by BBC Sport on Friday (7 January), Tottenham are expect to table a bid for Traore this month.

A Wolves source told Football Insider on Wednesday (5 January) the winger may be available for just £18million after being valued at £50m in August.

BBC Sport claim Antonio Conte views the Spain international, who has played predominantly as a winger, as someone who could operate in a wing-back role.

However, Whelan suggested Traore could actually play an even more attacking role at Spurs than he does at Molineux.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “This is a player who could really excite the Tottenham fans. I think he’d excite any fans, to be quite honest, with the way he plays.

“You’re looking at players that can make an impact on the game and create. I think he’s really brushed up on his final ball, his creativity and finishing style.

“At one stage there was a lot of pace and power but not really an end product. I think that has really improved over the years.

“He’s got that calmness now, but at the same time that explosiveness that gets you off your seat.

“When you watch him, he’s a very exciting player. A player who I think would work and would thrive on the opportunity to play at a bigger club in the Premier League.

“You could probably put him through the middle at times to be that second striker they’re looking for behind Harry Kane. He would cause havoc up there.”

Traore has scored 10 goals in 151 appearances for Wolves to date.

He is yet to net or contribute an assist in 18 Premier League games this season.
