Sources: Wolves three-man signing plan revealed

Wolves are likely to use some of the funds from a potential exit for Matheus Nunes to strengthen in the final days of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Molineux club are reluctant to lose the Portugal international – but could sacrifice him in order to improve the spine of the side before Friday’s (1 September) deadline.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (28 August) that Man City are closing in on the signing of Wolves midfielder Nunes, 24, as the transfer deadline approaches.

It is believed the treble-winners are ready to submit a bid of close to £60million after seeing an opening offer rejected.

A well-placed source has revealed that Wolves will then turn attention to signing a striker, central midfielder and centre-back with some of the available funds.

Gary O’Neil’s side have already parted with the likes of Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Nathan Collins this summer – raising around £80-90million in sales.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (28 August) that Wolves have identified Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho as part of a three-man striker shortlist.

The ex-Man City star has less than 12 months to run on his contract following the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.

O’Neil’s side are also ready to swoop for Arsenal defender Rob Holding in the final days of the window – with the 27-year-old surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (29 August) that Wolves are set to race Crystal Palace and Real Betis for the Englishman’s signature.

The Midlands side picked up their first win of the 2023-24 campaign on Saturday (26 August) – running out 1-0 winners away at Everton.

They are in League Cup action on Tuesday (29 August) at home against Blackpool.
