Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United on track to land '£80m' Champions League jackpot
Newcastle United would earn over £9million for topping their Champions League group stage and as much as £80million if they reach the final.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the financial rewards of Newcastle’s European campaign.
The Magpies currently sit top of their Champions League group after picking up four points in their opening two matches.
Eddie Howe’s side made their return to the competition with a goalless draw against AC Milan, before returning to St James’ Park and beating Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on Wednesday evening.
Football Insider revealed in April that Newcastle’s Champions League qualification earned the club a minimum £27million.
However, the Tyneside club can grow that figure significantly if they progress past the group stage of the tournament.

Maguire revealed that Newcastle will bank a minimum £9million if they remain top of Group F, while a trip to the final would pocket them a staggering £80million.
“First of all, there’s likely to be kick-ins from sponsors for getting to the group stages,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“They will earn £2.5million per win and £800,000 for a draw so they’ve already made £3.3million from two matches.
“If they replicate those results, we’re looking at £9million for topping the group stage.
“You’ve then got matchday earnings from St James’ Park with 50,000 capacity.
“You’re looking at £2.5million from a single match.
“Plus the opportunity for further prize money – it’s around about £4.5 million for reaching the last 16 and that increases on a round-by-round basis.
“If they get as far as the final then we’re probably looking somewhere in the region of £70 to £80million even though they haven’t got a very significant Uefa coefficient.“
