Sources: West Ham told McKennie asking price as star 'very keen' on move

West Ham have been told by Juventus the asking price for Weston McKennie is £35million, Football Insider has learned.

This site revealed on 28th September that the Irons have already opened talks with the Serie A giants over a potential deal for the central midfielder.

A West Ham source has told Football Insider that Juve want nearly double the initial £18m they paid Schalke for McKennie during the summer.

The 23-year-old completed a permanent move to Turin in July after an impressive season on loan from the German club.

The USA international is said by the source to be “very keen” to play in London and in the Premier League.

West Ham face the prospect of replacing star man Declan Rice next year after he rejected multiple new contract offers.

They will also lose longstanding skipper Mark Noble, who started alongside Rice in midfield on Thursday night, at the end of the season when he hangs up his boots and retires.

Football Insider revealed on 27 September that West Ham are planning to sell Rice for £90m as they step up plans to identify replacements.

McKennie is one target on the list of the club’s new-look recruitment team headed up by Rob Newman after he arrived by Man City last week.

He is a mainstay of the Juventus XI and made 46 appearances last season, which yielded six goals and three assists.

In the new campaign, McKennie has started three of Juve’s six Serie A matches and he was a second-half substitute in Wednesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over Chelsea.

The former FC Dallas star has a contract with the Italian club until the summer of 2025.
