Robinson shares bold West Brom prediction after 11th hour Ismael update

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Valerien Ismael as he closes in on becoming West Brom manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one tipped the 45-year-old will lead the Baggies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

This site revealed on 20 June Albion are close to appointing Barnsley’s boss as their new manager after reaching an agreement in principle.

Football Insider understands as of today (23 June) that the deal is being held up because of complications surrounding Barnsley’s compensation fee.

West Brom have agreed to pay the full £2million compensation needed to trigger Ismael’s exit from his contract but want to pay it in instalments.

However, the Tykes want the fee paid up front and while it is a stumbling block, it is not expected to jeopardise the move.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Ismael, Robinson said: “Ismael has got a great record.

“He is a manager who made me stand up and take notice last year. It was unbelievable what he was able to do with that Barnsley team.

“I like the way they played. They were very direct at times and they were not apologetic about doing it.

“He got the best out of that crop of players. They all looked like they liked playing for him. He clearly had a great relationship with them.

“If he can take a club like Barnsley to the play-offs then I am pretty sure he can take West Brom up. It’s so important they bounce back up next year.

“To apply a manager of Ismael’s ilk shows real intent from the club. In the Championship you need a good man-manager and a manager who knows that league. Ismael has proven he’s both.”
