Kieran Maguire reveals 49ers plan amid £200m Leeds United news

The 49ers will prioritise new hospitality sectors at Elland Road to boost matchday revenue at Leeds United.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the economic benefits of Elland Road’s expansion.

The 49ers Enterprises have discussed plans to expand Elland Road to a capacity of 55,000, with the Daily Mail reporting that the new Leeds owners have put aside £200million for the stadium project.

Despite their relegation to the Championship, Leeds have continued to fill the 37,890 seats in the venue, including in their League Cup clash against Shrewsbury.

Maguire expects the 49ers to include many new hospitality sectors in the stadium as they are more profitable than season ticket sales.

Leeds are aware that if they want to be considered to be a competitor in the Premier League as well as one of the leading clubs in the Championship, then they’ve got to look at all revenue streams,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

In 2022 they generated almost £25 million from matchday revenue in the Premier League.

“In the Championship that revenue will be more significant.

There is a long waiting list for tickets and season tickets in particular at present.

When doing their budgets, the 49ers will be confident that the number of tickets sold will be very high.

It will take time to get a return on that investment but Leeds is a very big business city and they will be looking towards the hospitality sector.

Elland Road is currently looking a little bit tired with regard to what it can offer, and certainly that there are demands in the surrounding area for more hospitality opportunities.

I think that will be a significant revenue earner for them and Leeds also know that they can sell individual tickets to fans and therefore they can sell the membership scheme on the back of that.

Also in terms of the mega store, merchandise sales, catering sales and other revenue opportunities will be generated on the back of that.
