Tottenham insider delivers update on 'huge blow' to Bergwijn and minimum absence length

Steven Bergwijn is set to miss at least a month of action for Tottenham after sharing an update on his injury.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Bergwijn picked up a knock against Rennes in last week’s Europa Conference League clash.

He missed Sunday’s loss to Chelsea and on Monday shared an image of his left foot in a protective boot.

Bergwijn, 23, started Tottenham’s first three Premier League games of the season after emerging as an early favourite of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wenham insists seeing the attacker in a protective boot is a “massive blow” after the player spent the summer impressing his new boss.

“When you see a protective boot, you are really looking at a month on the sidelines minimum,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“For us, that is a huge blow. You only have to look at our bench against Chelsea.

“We only had Dane Scarlett and Bryan Gil as attacking options to bring off the bench.

“You only have to look at the fact Bergwijn was in the team for the first four games of the season to see how important he is.

“He is a positive influence and he’s obviously impressed Nuno over the summer.

“It’s a massive blow to lose him. We are missing a few options up there.”

Bergwijn signed for Tottenham in January 2020 and has made 56 appearances for the club.

He had a debut to remember after scoring an excellent strike against Man City just 63 minutes into his Spurs career.
