Sources: Tottenham ready to join race to sign Jota in January

Tottenham are set to be one of several clubs ready to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad in the January window, sources have told Football Insider.

The forward will need to be willing to move on from the Saudi Pro League outfit, where he currently earns a wage of around £200,000-a-week.

It is believed Jota could be one of the best available and most sought-after stars in the January window.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (6 October) that Tottenham could explore a potential move for the Al-Ittihad outcast amid long-term injuries for Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic.

Jota’s reported £25million move to the Middle East has not worked out – with the Portuguese ace not even registered to play in the Saudi Pro League.

That development has caught the attention of Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who is a big fan of the forward after their time together at Celtic.

Postecoglou brought Jota to Parkhead on an initial loan in 2021 before signing him permanently in the following year.

He managed 28 goals and 26 assists in 83 appearances for the Hoops, winning two league titles and three domestic cups.

Jota made five substitute appearances at the start of the Saudi Pro League season, grabbing one assist.

However, despite signing a three-year deal in July, the forward has already been unregistered to play in league competition.

He can only feature for Al-Ittihad in Club World Cup and AFC Champions League games.
