Expert tells Tottenham to reject Clarke offer from 'massive club' with 'huge numbers'

Tottenham should try and loan Jack Clarke to a Championship club instead of letting him go to Sunderland.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Monday (24 January) Football Insider revealed Sunderland have made an approach to sign Tottenham winger Clarke, 21.

The League One giants face competition from a number of other clubs who have contacted Spurs about signing the forward this month.

It is believed the Premier League big guns are willing to let him go to secure regular game time.

“Sunderland are a massive club and they get huge numbers down there for every game,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a potentially decent move and gives him the chance to link up with Dennis Cirkin who joined them in the summer.

“But I’d rather he went and joined a Championship club. I don’t see the point in him joining a League One club.

“Now Dilan Markanday has left, Clarke will be the main focus in our Under 23 side.

“I’m not sure League One is a better standard than the games Clarke will play if he stays with us.

“Unless it was a move to the Championship I’m not really sure why would sanction that, it’s a bit pointless.”

Clarke’s only senior involvement this season has come as a late substitute in the 1-0 Europa Conference League qualifier loss to Pacos Ferreira in August.

A £13million signing from Leeds United in July 2019, Clarke has had three loan spells during his two-and-a-half years at Spurs.

In other news, Tottenham have opened talks to sign a striker in a £16.7m deal.
