Sources: Southampton star Duje Caleta-Car finalising move today after agreement

Southampton defender Duje Caleta-Car is finalising a move to Lyon today, sources have told Football Insider.

Croatian international Caleta-Car made only 13 appearances last season following his arrival from Marseille.

Southampton are willing to let Caleta-Car move on and Lyon are offering the centre-back a return to Ligue 1.

The defender only joined Southampton last year from Marseille in a deal worth £8 million, signing a four-year contract at the club.

Former boss Ralph Hassenhuttl spoke highly of the Croatia international upon his arrival, stating to the media: “Duje is already a very established and experienced player, who has done an impressive job at his previous clubs. ‘He is a big presence on the pitch and he will bring even more quality into our centre-back group.”

Nevertheless, Caleta Car couldn’t stop Southampton’s eventual relegation despite scoring twice in 20 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign

The Saints have already made a defensive sale this summer following Mohammed Salisu’s move to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco.

There are more departures expected as Football Insider exclusively revealed on Wednesday (26 July) that West Ham are continuing Ward-Prowse talks with a deal now believed to be very possible.

Ward-Prowse is believed to be keen to return to the Premier League following Southampton’s relegation and would be open to join the east London club.

The midfielder played every Premier League game in the 2022-23 campaign and has racked up 343 total top-flight appearances since making his debut in 2012.
