Sources: Everton reach agreement over Mason Holgate move

Everton have agreed to let Mason Holgate go on loan next season, sources have told Football Insider.

Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United have registered their interest in taking the centre-back on a temporary basis.

Everton boss Sean Dyche has told Holgate he is free to complete a season’s loan with two years left on his contract.

The defender, 26, has struggled to make an impact under Dyche after previously being the club’s player of the year under Carlo Ancelotti.

Holgate made just nine appearances for the Toffees across all competitions in a season that saw them narrowly avoid relegation.

The centre-back joined Goodison Park from Barnsley in 2015 and has made 149 appearances for the first team during his time on Merseyside, scoring five goals and providing five assists in those outings.

Newly promoted Sheffield United are looking for reinforcements as they take another crack at the English top flight.

The Blades finished second in the Championship this season, winning automatic promotion to the Premier League alongside league winners Burnley.

Sheffield United return to the top flight after two years in the second division and will be keen to last longer than the two seasons the side managed last time round.

Despite a massive influx of players last summer, Nottingham Forest are once again looking for new additions this year to help them survive in the top flight for another season.
