Sources: Man City ready to agree Matheus Nunes deal with £60m bid
Man City remain confident of landing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes in the final week of the window despite seeing an opening bid rejected, sources have told Football Insider.
The Molineux club turned down City’s first bid for the 24-year-old – who is now the top target for Pep Guardiola’s side following the collapse of their move for West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.
It is believed Man City could now return with an offer close to the £60million mark – and are confident that would be enough to secure his signature.
That is despite a potential sale leaving Wolves with just days to find a replacement for the Portugal international.
Gary O’Neil’s side have already sold the likes of Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez and Nathan Collins this summer.
The sale of Nunes could eclipse all previous deals, however, with a potential fee of £60million set to become a new club-record departure for Wolves.

He has turned out twice from the start already this season but received a red card in the Molineux club’s last Premier League fixture against Brighton last week (19 August).
The midfielder will therefore miss Saturday’s (26 August) game against Everton.
Nunes only signed for Wolves for a reported club-record fee of £42.2million last summer and enjoyed a successful debut season in England.
He turned out 39 times for the Midlands club across all competitions, notching one goal and one assist.
Man City have targetted midfield reinforcements with Kevin de Bruyne out injured for months and Ilkay Gundogan leaving on a free transfer for Barcelona.
The treble-winners have already wrapped up a deal for ex-Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.
City have won their opening two games against Burnley and Newcastle and face Sheffield United on Sunday (27 August).
