Revealed: Leeds now want to sign Archer after £10m bid submitted

Leeds United have identified Cameron Archer as a possible forward target for the final weeks of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (18 August) that the Whites are also considering a late-window swoop for Norwich City star Josh Sargent.

Archer, 21, is also wanted by clubs in the Premier League after two successful Championship loans in back-to-back seasons.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (18 August) that Aston Villa have told clubs they want £20million for the England Under-21 striker this month.

It is believed that Sheffield United have seen a £10million bid for his services rejected.

A well-placed Leeds source has told Football Insider that Archer’s price tag is seen as prohibitive and that any potential deal will be hard to do this summer.

Daniel Farke’s side have lost Rodrigo Moreno to Qatar this summer, while Patrick Bamford continues to struggle with persistent injury problems.

The young striker is keen to get first-team football after thriving out on loan to Middlesbrough in the second half of last season.

He notched 11 goals and six assists from just 20 second-tier matches for Michael Carrick’s side.

The 21-year-old was a similar hit at Preston – scoring seven goals in 20 Championship appearances on loan in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign.

Archer is under contract at Aston Villa until June 2027 after penning a bumper new deal last summer (2022).

However, his playing time has been extremely limited since Unai Emery’s arrival – and it is believed the Spaniard is happy to let him move on this summer.

Leeds have picked up two points from their opening three Championship games this season following relegation to the second tier last term.

The Whites came from behind to draw 1-1 at home against West Brom on Friday (18 August).
