Sources: Brennan Johnson wants to join Tottenham after new talks

Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson has told friends he is keen to join Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

The London giants are working on a late-window deal for the 22-year-old but face competition from rivals including Chelsea and West Ham.

Spurs have held talks over a deal for Johnson but an agreement is a long way off with Forest holding out for a £45million-plus fee.

The north London outfit have been keeping close tabs on the super-quick attacker for some time and their scouts have been hugely impressed.

Johnson is keen on progressing his career and moving to a Champions League calibre club, and believes he would get more game time at Tottenham than at a club like Chelsea where there is even stronger competition for places.

The versatile attacker joined Forest from Lincoln City in 2019 with his current contract running until 2026 after penning an extension last summer.

The Wales international made 44 appearances across all competitions for Steve Cooper’s side last term, netting ten goals and offering up three assists in those outings.

Spurs have lost their star man Harry Kane who joined Bayern Munich after lengthy discussions between the sides and have yet to sign a replacement.

Ange Postecoglou deployed Richarlison up front in their 2-0 win over Man United with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min also deployed in attack.

The victory marked Postecoglou’s first Premier League win as Spurs boss and he will be open to lead his side to victory again against Bournemouth on Saturday (26 August).
