Newcastle told to pay 'big' fee to sign Jesse Lingard after update on new loan bid - pundit
Alan Hutton has urged Newcastle United to pay a “big” loan fee to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United before tonight’s deadline.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international claimed the 29-year-old’s experience could be the difference between survival and relegation for the Magpies.
As reported by the Athletic’s David Ornstein today (31 January), Newcastle have tabled an improved loan offer for Lingard ahead of the 11pm deadline.
Manchester United are reportedly seeking a £2.5million loan fee, a £12million survival bonus and Lingard’s wages covering.
However, Hutton insisted the money would be worth it if the attacking midfielder keeps Newcastle up.
“That’s a big loan fee for the second half of the season,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“But that being said, if he can produce the form he did when he went to West Ham, that is the kind of form that gets you out the relegation zone.
“That’s the difference, so whatever the fee may be is definitely worth it. That’s a boy with all the talent in the world.
“He has found it difficult at Manchester United. Especially with their spending power and who they’re bringing in.
“For him to get out and play football I think is ideal. His contract is running out so he’ll want to be in the shop window.
“If things do go well, he goes to Newcastle, he scores six, seven goals and they look to kick on, that might be the club for him in the future.
“So I think they need a player like that, with the experience. Somebody who has the know-how to deal with pressure situations. They need that within their squad at the moment if they’re going to get out the relegation zone.”
Lingard has been a fringe figure at Old Trafford this season.
He has started just twice in 14 appearances across all competitions.
