Sources: Shrewsbury Town agree to sign Matty Bondswell from Newcastle United
Matty Bondswell has agreed to join Shrewsbury Town on loan from Newcastle United, Football Insider understands.
Former Nottingham Forest man Bondswell, 19, is highly-regarded at Newcastle and has been training with the first-team this season.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Newcastle feel a loan move will be best for Bondswell’s development at this stage of his career and Shrewsbury have beaten off interest from a number of EFL clubs to land the left-back.
He is yet to make his senior competitive bow for the Magpies but featured in a pre-season friendly against Doncaster Rovers last July (2021).
The England youth international has played 19 times for the club’s Under-23s side, including twice against EFL opposition in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Bondswell moved to Newcastle in the summer after cancelling his contract with RB Leipzig.

He went to Germany in 2020 hoping to be the latest young Englishman to make their breakthrough on the continent.
Bondswell’s path to the first-team at St. James’ Park has been blocked by the likes of Matt Ritchie and Jamal Lewis.
Eddie Howe has also added Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season today (31 January).
Football Insider revealed earlier today that has opened the door for Lewis to leave on loan before the 11 pm cut-off.
Shrewsbury are 16th in League One, just four points above the relegation places.
In other news, Newcastle United have agreed two more signings on deadline-day as their transfer blitz intensifies.
