Sources: Mansfield Town agree to sign Matty Longstaff from Newcastle
Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff is set to join Mansfield Town on loan, Football Insider understands.
Longstaff spent the first half of the season on loan at Aberdeen, but the deal was cut short in December after finding his first-team opportunities limited at Pittodrie.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Newcastle are open to loaning out Longstaff again and Mansfield have moved to agree a deal to bring the 21-year-old to Field Mill before the transfer window closes.
Longstaff, who has come through the ranks at Newcastle’s academy, is under contract until 2023.
He made his first-team breakthrough in the 2019-20 campaign but has struggled for game-time since.
He turned out just five times for Aberdeen before he was recalled, and he failed to complete 90 minutes on any of those occasions.

Longstaff did not feature at all in the last five games he was available for in Scotland, and Newcastle announced had been recalled on Boxing Day.
His only first-team involvement for the Magpies this term was when he was named on the bench for the League Cup defeat to Burnley in August.
In Mansfield, he joins a side in 6th place in the fourth tier and gunning for promotion.
They have made three additions this January, with Lucas Akins and Kieran Wallace joining from Burton Albion and John-Joe O’Toole signing on a free.
Newcastle meanwhile have completed the signing of Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa in a deadline day deal.
Brighton defender Dan Burn is also expected to be unveiled as a Magpie before the 11pm cut-off.
