Dean Henderson: 'I feel sorry for him' after Man United transfer update - pundit

Kevin Campbell has told Dean Henderson to accept his fate and “honour” his contract with Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker urged the 24-year-old to knuckle down after a “disappointing” end to the transfer window.

This site revealed (16 November) that the England international made it clear to Manchester United that he wants to leave in the winter window.

Newcastle United showed an interest in Henderson last month.

However, as reported by the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope (30 January), a move failed to materialise after late-window talks over a loan move.

According to the Manchester Evening News‘ Samuel Luckhurst (31 January), Watford also saw an 11th-hour move for Henderson blocked.

Campbell admitted he feels “a little bit sorry” for the goalkeeper, who wanted to leave in search of regular game time.

“I feel sorry for him a little bit,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“But at the end of the day he is a Manchester United player and he has signed a contract there. He has to honour that. You take your chance when you sign a long-term contract.

“There were times last season when he was playing and it looked like he would dislodge David de Gea. I thought he was going to get that number one spot but it didn’t work out. De Gea has been phenomenal this season and that’s football.

“Sometimes as a young man you have to bide your time. I get that he’s impatient and does not want to wait but the club has to do what is right for the club. Not what is right for Dean Henderson.

“He’ll be disappointed because I cannot see that deal coming off.”
