Sources: Luton Town sensation Ed McJannet set to join Leece as medical underway
Luton Town sensation Ed McJannet is having a medical in Italy ahead of joining Lecce in a permanent deal, sources have told Football Insider.
Earlier on Tuesday (31 January) Football Insider revealed Leece were in advanced talks to sign the midfielder.
Leece’s Serie A rivals Sassuolo also made an unsuccessful bid for the 19-year-old.
The Republic of Ireland U19 international has yet to make his first-team debut for Luton, but Italian clubs have shown a growing trend in recent years in signing top young Irish talent.
Irish full-back John Ryan, formerly of Shamrock Rovers and UCD, is already on the books at Serie A side Sassuolo.
Festy Ebosele, Cathal Heffernan, James Abankwah, and Kevin Zefi are all also currently plying their trade in the Italian top flight to differing degrees of success.

McJannet was named in two senior matchday squads in cup matches last season but failed to appear from the bench against Cambridge or Stevenage.
He has been training with Rob Edwards’ first team in recent weeks after returning from a lengthy injury layoff.
McJannet is a regular for Ireland Under-19s and captained the side in their last game against Hungary back in September.
Leece sit 15th in Serie A after a poor first half of the season in which they only won four of their 20 games.
Luton, meanwhile, are seventh in the Championship as the club looks to finish in the playoff places for a second successive season.
