Kieran Maguire shares view as £50m Chelsea deal agreed - 'eyebrows might be raised'

A £50million front-of-shirt sponsor at Chelsea is ‘reasonable’ because of their recent success in the Champions League.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that he believes Chelsea will pass the Premier League’s fair market value assessment.

As revealed by Football Insider (9 August), the Blues are in advanced talks for a £50million sponsorship deal with Infinite Athlete.

The London club launched their home kit this summer and played Liverpool in their Premier League opener without a sponsor after failing to agree a deal in time.

However, an agreement has since been struck with US-based Infinite Athlete, although the £50million valuation of the deal has left rival fans sceptical.

Maguire believes Chelsea’s recent success in the Premier League and Champions League will help them justify the value to the Premier League’s fair market value board.

As far as Chelsea’s sponsorship deal is concerned given the status of the club, they have won the Champions League and Premier League in recent years,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“They are regular contenders in Europe and have won other competitions.

“The £50million valuation of the deal seems reasonable, although eyebrows might be raised in terms of the status of the sponsor.

However, it could be argued that they are a start-up company looking to expand quickly through this sponsorship deal.

That is an argument I’m sure Chelsea’s new partners will use.
