Liverpool set for 'substantial' transfer boost as talks over £50m-a-year deal underway - pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted a lucrative new sponsorship deal will provide a “substantial” transfer boost to Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested companies will be queuing up to associate themselves with the Reds.
As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (22 April), Liverpool are in talks with several firms as they look to secure a £50million-plus-a-year shirt sponsorship deal.
The Premier League giants’ current agreement with Standard Chartered, worth £40million-a-year, runs until the summer of 2023.
With club chiefs targeting a club-record sponsor deal, Whelan insisted it would be a big boost to the transfer coffers at Anfield.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Look, they’re a very marketable football club. One that many, many businesses would want to be attached to.

“Liverpool is a club that pretty much sells itself. It’s like Man United, Man City these days, Chelsea. Those big four sell themselves to companies because they want to be attached to that brand.
“They’re never going to be without a sponsor, that’s for sure, because of how successful they are. Because of the history behind the club, because of the demand worldwide support that they have.
“It’s a no brainer for a company to be attached and have a logo on the Liverpool shirt. It’s one of the biggest selling shirts in the world, not just in the country.
“That is going to be something substantial to the football club that’s going to help bring players in and give them the finances to push further and stay right there at the top of world football.”
Liverpool have been sponsored by Standard Chartered since 2010.
Their last extension came back in 2018.
