Liverpool news: Kieran Maguire lambasts 'ignorant' John Henry after legal update from Madrid
Liverpool owner John Henry may be “ignorant” of the views of fans but he has learned his lesson from the Super League fiasco.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing fallout from the scrapped breakaway league.
Liverpool were one of 12 teams in total and one of six from the Premier League to sign up for the pan-European competition in April last year.
But they withdrew within a matter of days after a huge fan backlash, with Henry forced into an embarrassing video apology.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus have refused to abandon the project and were protected from punishment from Uefa by a legal injunction.
But, as relayed by the Daily Mail last Thursday (21 April), the three could now be made an example of after a Madrid court lifted the injunction.

Maguire, however, claims that Liverpool do not need a further deterrent as the fans have already made their views crystal clear.
He told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams:: “I think the tin ear of John Henry was addressed by the fans a year ago after Super League.
“I don’t think this change in the legal position will change that. The club had stated that he wanted nothing more to do with Super League.
“I think the fans simply have had to take their word on this, even if he has proved to be ignorant of their views at times.
“To not do that would make it difficult for those in the stands, who want what is best for the club and for the football.“
The new Champions League reforms have been described as a Super League in all but name.
The competition will swell from 32 to 36 teams from 2024-25, with the total number of matches set to nearly double.
