Pundit drops 'huge' Newcastle United claim after 'tough' Eddie Howe reveal
The manner of Newcastle United’s loss to Liverpool will be a “huge blow” to the side.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton said teams can often “galvanize” when down to ten men.
Anthony Gordon scored the opener for the Magpies shortly before Virgil van Dijk was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Alexander Isak.
Eddie Howe’s side were on course to take all three points at St James’ Park until the 81st minute when Darwin Nunez scored the equaliser and then the winning goal deep into stoppage time.
Speaking to the BBC after the defeat (28 August), the Newcastle boss said the result was “tough to take”.
When asked how disappointing the result is given the manner of the defeat, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is a huge blow.

“At home, against arguably one of their rivals for top four so you want to put down a marker. When a team goes down to ten men it can be difficult because they can galvanize and come together and make if difficult for you to break down.

“They are not going to go away and if you give people like Nunez a chance he will put them away.“
