Everton tipped to pull off 'easy' Longstaff transfer after Newcastle 'talks held' - pundit

Frank McAvennie claims an Everton swoop for Sean Longstaff would be “easy” to pull off either in January or next summer.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists a deal is likely to happen.

On 11th August, The Athletic reported initial discussions had taken place between Newcastle and Everton over a deal for Longstaff, 23.

The Athletic also reported Rafa Benitez and Longstaff have maintained regular contact after the former left Newcastle and that the two remain friends.

The midfielder’s current deal is also set to expire at the end of the season.

McAvennie insists a deal for Longstaff will be easy for Everton to pull off with the player’s future in doubt after Newcastle’s takeover.

“I don’t think anyone is safe,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m sure there have been talks about Longstaff going to Everton before.

“I know Rafa likes him and who is going to question his signings after the wonders he worked in the summer.

“I think there is a deal to be done there. It might make sense for the player.

“He’s not an established first-team player at Newcastle and he has to look after himself.

“I think he will be replaced, so that would make it easy for Everton to sign him.”

Longstaff has made seven appearances for Newcastle this season and has scored one goal.

Everton are next in action against West Ham on Sunday.
