Tottenham tipped to sign Denzel Dumfries after £43m reveal - pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Denzel Dumfries “ticks every single box” for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte as he targets a new right wing-back.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it is “no secret” that Conte is unhappy with current trio Djed Spence, Matt Doherty, and Emerson Royal.
According to Calciomercato (5 December), Inter Milan would be tempted to part with Dumfries, 26, if they receive a bid of at least €50million (£43million) in the coming transfer windows – with Chelsea and Man United interested.
Tottenham have reportedly “made enquiries” about the availability of the right-back – who has impressed yet again for the Netherlands at the World Cup.
Spurs’ first choice option Royal has been the subject of much derision from fans, while Spence is yet to start for the Lilywhites since joining in the summer window.
When asked if Dumfries could be the answer to Conte’s problem at right wing-back, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Yeah, for sure.

“It’s no secret that Conte’s not happy with the options he has, in Doherty, Spence, and Emerson Royal.
“This makes perfect sense after seeing him play on the biggest stage with the Netherlands.
“He ticks every single box as a wing-back, and that is one area that Tottenham are desperate to get right.
“It’s a crucial position for the way Conte plays.
“Dumfries could be their man if they go all out to beat Chelsea and Man United.
“He’s guaranteed to play week-in, week-out at Spurs – so I think joining them would make a lot more sense.”
