Pundit verdict on Chelsea sacking Graham Potter after source's reveal

It would be “very, very harsh” if Chelsea sacked Graham Potter.

That’s according to former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Potter’s future at Stamford Bridge.

On Monday (12 December), sources told this site that Mauricio Pochettino has told friends he is keen on the Chelsea manager’s job.

The Argentine is interested in taking over at the Blues if it were to become available and is “pushing for the job” behind the scenes.

But Potter’s position at the London club is not under immediate threat and he will be in the dugout for Chelsea’s return to action in two weeks.

Nevertheless, Todd Boehly has been increasingly worried with the team’s results after three successive defeats just before the mid-season break.

The club suffered a 4-1 hammering by Potter’s former club Brighton and were eliminated from the League Cup by Man City.

As a result, Potter’s position could come under threat if he is unable to turn things around once the season restarts.

But Hutton suggested Pochettino won’t be taking over any time soon.

Graham Potter has literally just walked through the door,” he told Football Insider.

The door is still spinning. I can’t see that happening any time soon.

I think Graham Potter signed up for a project. He is going to have to put his own stamp on the team. He has still not even really been able to do that.

It is very very harsh to be talking about him leaving right now.
