Conor Gallagher: Chelsea star happy to sign new deal after Pochettino U-turn - sources

Conor Gallagher is more than happy to extend his Chelsea contract as long as he is playing regularly, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old, who is currently out of contract in June 2025, has always been content at Stamford Bridge – but was wary of a potential lack of game time after the arrivals of Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo and Lesley Ugochukwu.

However, Football Insider revealed on Friday (6 October) that Gallagher has impressed Pochettino since the start of the 2023-24 campaign and is now a regular in his new-look Blues side.

Chelsea are now ready to open talks with the midfielder about an extension with a well-placed source telling Football Insider that he is now a “big part” of the Argentine’s plans going forward.

Lavia’s injury has meant Gallagher is a regular starter for the London club, and he has even worn the armband in the club’s last four Premier League games.

The England international has started in each of Chelsea’s eight Premier League games this term.

He is now a regular for the Three Lions and was called up to the latest squad to face Australia and Italy this month.

Game time is therefore important for Gallagher as he vies for a key role for his country in next year’s European Championships in Germany.

He made his breakthrough at Stamford Bridge last term, notching three goals and one assist in 45 games across all competitions.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (8 October) that both Tottenham and West Ham were interested in signing Gallagher during the summer window, but a move failed to materialise.

Chelsea recorded their second straight Premier League win on Saturday (7 October), beating Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor.

The Blues now sit 11th in the top flight with 11 points.
