Sources: Howe holds talks with Premier League club after Celtic U-turn

Crystal Palace have sounded out Eddie Howe about becoming their new manager after his Celtic U-turn, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The ex-Bournemouth boss reached a verbal agreement with Celtic following talks in London last night before having second thoughts.

A Palace source has told Football Insider the club are assessing potential alternatives to Roy Hodgson and have spoken to Howe.

He is said to be among their top targets should Hodgson, 73, depart when his contract expires at the end of the season.

This site revealed last week that Palace have already made contact with Burnley boss Sean Dyche and spoke to him in January.

Celtic are assessing alternative options to Howe amid fears he is using their interest as leverage with Premier League sides.

The 43-year-old accepted the Hoops’ “wonderful” offer presented last week before it emerged on Wednesday night via Sky Sports he does not plan to return to management until the summer at the earliest.

Bu that point, Celtic had already made contact with former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre.

Football Insider had already revealed early on Wednesday (7th April) that Favre is also on the Hoops’ shortlist and has been approached.

The Scottish champions are not convinced Howe is willing to deal with the pressure and scrutiny of managing a club where the expectation is to win every match.

Howe has left the door open, but the chances of him taking over at Celtic in the summer are diminishing.

Palace are ready to entice a new manager with a major transfer kitty this summer – a £50million war chest has been reported – and that could prove pivotal.
