Exclusive: Sofyan Amrabat to undergo Man United medical after breakthrough

Man United have made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old has been given the green light by the Italian club to travel to Manchester for talks and a medical.

United are now putting the finishing touches to what will be a marquee signing.

They have been pursuing the midfielder all summer and a deal is now believed to be close following late-night developments.

Earlier this month (2 August), Football Insider revealed that Amrabat’s agents had travelled to Manchester ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford.

Fiorentina’s asking price for the Morocco international is believed to be around £30million.

Amrabat has entered the final year of his contract with the Serie A side but his deal includes the option of a 12-month extension.

The midfielder massively impressed interested parties at the World Cup in Qatar during Morocco’s historic run to the semi-final.

Amrabat has also played under United boss Erik ten Hag during their time at FC Utrecht.

The Moroccan made 50 appearances under the Dutch boss and netted 11 goals in those outings.

Last season, the midfielder made 49 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions, netting just one goal in those outings.

Ten Hag is keen to link up with his former player to strengthen the ranks in midfield.

The Dutchman has already added Chelsea academy product Mason Mount to his squad this summer following a £55m move earlier this summer.
