Sources: Brighton reject last-gasp £15m Tariq Lamptey bid

Brighton have rejected a £15million offer from Sporting Lisbon for Tariq Lamptey and the player is set to stay at the Amex Stadium, sources have told Football Insider.

Sporting Lisbon had targeted Lamptey as a potential replacement for Tottenham target Pedro Porro and they tabled a £15million offer for the Ghana international.

Brighton turned down the offer for Lamptey and after holdings talks with Seagulls officials over his future the 22-year-old has decided to stay at the South Coast club.

Lamptey has become a first-team regular at Brighton since joining the Seagulls from Chelsea back in 2020.

Born in Hillingdon, London, Lamptey grew up in the Chelsea academy, spending 11 years at Cobham climbing his way through the ranks.

The Blues signed Lamptey to a professional contract in 2019 and in the same year, he made his Premier League debut for the club coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 victory over London rivals Arsenal.

Lamptey went on to make a further two appearances at Chelsea in the FA Cup but never nailed down a spot in the first-team squad with Reece James providing tough competition.

Brighton swooped in for his signature in January 2020, signing Lamptey to a three-and-a-half-year contract.

He has since made 65 top-flight appearances for the Seagulls, including 16 in the 2022/23 season.

However, under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, Lamptey has struggled for minutes and has come off the bench in five of Brighton’s last six matches.

Lamptey has completed just one full 90-minute match in the Premier League this season – the 4-2 loss to Arsenal on New Year’s Eve.
